Bently 3500/33 16-Channel Relay Module Operation Guide

  1. Preface & Safety Warnings

1.1 Overview

The Bently 3500/33 is a 16-channel SPDT relay module designed for the 3500 Series Monitoring & Protection System. It receives alert/danger status signals from 3500 monitor modules and executes preset relay actions (e.g., alarm triggering, emergency shutdown) to ensure industrial equipment safety. This guide details standard operation procedures, including installation, configuration, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

1.2 Safety Warnings

– Ensure the 3500 rack power supply is disconnected before installation, wiring, or maintenance to avoid electric shock.

– The module is ESD-sensitive; use anti-static gloves and wrist straps during handling to prevent electrostatic damage.

– Do not operate the module beyond the specified environmental limits (temperature, humidity, voltage) to avoid component failure.

– Only qualified technicians with 3500 system training are allowed to perform configuration and maintenance operations.

  1. Pre-Installation Preparation

2.1 Tools & Materials Required

– Screwdriver set (flathead and Phillips, compatible with 3500 rack mounting screws)

– Anti-static wrist strap and gloves

– Wire stripper (for cable preparation)

– Multimeter (for continuity and voltage testing)

– Approved cables (compatible with relay output and signal input requirements)

– Bently 3500 Rack Configuration Software (installed on a PC)

2.2 Inspection Before Installation

– Check the module part number (162291-01) and model (3500/33) to confirm compatibility with the 3500 rack.

– Inspect the module exterior for physical damage (e.g., cracks, bent pins, loose components).

– Verify that the 3500 rack power supply is within the 24 V DC ±10% range.

– Ensure the installation environment meets the module’s environmental requirements (-40°C to +70°C operating temperature, 5%-95% non-condensing humidity).

  1. Installation Procedures

3.1 Module Mounting

  1. Turn off the 3500 rack power supply and disconnect the power cable.
  2. Wear the anti-static wrist strap and connect it to a valid ground point on the rack.
  3. Align the module’s guide rails with the slots in the 3500 rack (install in any slot to the right of the rack interface module).
  4. Slide the module into the slot until it makes full contact with the rack backplane.
  5. Tighten the mounting screws on the front panel of the module to secure it to the rack (torque: 0.5-0.7 N·m).

3.2 Wiring Connection

3.2.1 Power Wiring

– The module draws power from the 3500 rack backplane; no separate power wiring is required. Ensure the rack power supply is correctly connected before power-on.

3.2.2 Input Signal Wiring (from 3500 Monitor Modules)

  1. Identify the input signal terminals on the module (labeled on the front panel or in the product manual).
  2. Strip the ends of the signal cables (expose 6-8 mm of conductor).
  3. Connect the alert/danger status and not-ok signal cables from the 3500 monitor modules to the corresponding input terminals.
  4. Secure the cables with terminal screws to prevent loose connections.

3.2.3 Relay Output Wiring (to Load Devices)

  1. Identify the SPDT relay output terminals (common, normally open, normally closed) for each of the 16 channels.
  2. Connect the load device cables (e.g., alarm indicators, shutdown relays) to the appropriate terminals based on the preset logic (normally open or normally closed).
  3. Ensure the load current does not exceed the relay rating (10 A @ 250 V AC / 250 V DC).
  4. Use cable ties to organize the wiring and avoid cable stress on the terminals.
